Abstract

Thirty years later, the sources, design and concepts of the Alma Ata approach remain in the twilight of a necessarily heterogeneous praxis, time and space-wise. Its inspirational value, perfectly valid today, to reach better health levels,- and not necessarily as expression of enhanced health expenditure-, call for reconsideration of its basic concepts and the conditions of its emergence: community organization + health technical knowledge. This is the personal testimony of a Chilean practitioner, participant and subsequent educator, -at global level, for more than ten years-, of the Alma Ata strategy.
